Short answer: yes, Vivid Seats is a real, established ticket resale marketplace, and every order carries its Buyer Guarantee. What "legit" does not mean is official. Vivid Seats is not the box office: the tickets on it are resold by independent sellers, at prices those sellers choose, which can be well above face value. Whether a Vivid Seats ticket is a good buy comes down to the listing, the total and the terms, not the brand.

What Vivid Seats is

Vivid Seats is a resale marketplace. It does not issue tickets for concerts itself; it connects buyers with sellers who already hold them. It describes itself as a marketplace of thousands of ticket sellers, and says every seller has to apply and be approved before listing, with its longest-standing sellers marked by a ribbon icon.

That is why Vivid Seats can have tickets for a show after the official onsale has ended, and why its prices can differ from the price printed on the ticket.

Compare the same event on both providers

These are upcoming dates, one per artist, with a checked event-specific link on both Vivid Seats and Ticketmaster. Open both and compare the same seats and the checkout total yourself.

1860 upcoming events passed both providers' existing event-level provenance and direct-URL safety checks at 2026-10-16T03:11:12.452Z. This is checked-link coverage, not a live inventory or price claim.

What Vivid Seats' published guarantee covers

Vivid Seats says its guarantee promises three things:

  • Your transaction will be secure.
  • Your tickets will be delivered before the event.
  • The tickets will be valid and authentic.

The guarantee is about the ticket itself. It does not protect you from paying more than face value, from buying the wrong date, or from a change in your own plans. Read the full guarantee terms linked from the Vivid Seats help centre before relying on it for anything specific.

Why prices can be above face value

Vivid Seats says every price on its site is set independently by the reseller listing it, based on demand for the event and where the seat is. Listed prices can change at any time, and can be higher or lower than the ticket's face value. It also says it uses all-in pricing, so fees are included in the price you see once you start shopping.

So a high price on Vivid Seats is usually a seller's asking price in a busy market, not a sign the site is a scam. It is still a reason to check whether the official seller has face-value tickets left before buying resale.

Cancelled and postponed events

Cancellations and postponements are decided by the artist, venue or promoter, not by Vivid Seats. What Vivid Seats does after that:

  • Cancelled and not rescheduled: compensation as a refund or store credit of the purchase price, including delivery fees but less possible restocking fees, at Vivid Seats' discretion. It emails you once it has confirmed the cancellation.
  • Postponed or rescheduled: your tickets are valid for the new date, and no compensation is due. If the original ticket seller reissues tickets with new barcodes, Vivid Seats delivers the new ones and tells you to discard the old ones.

That refund-or-credit wording matters. If you would want cash rather than credit, read the terms on your order before you buy. For the general steps, see what to do if a concert is postponed or cancelled.

Why you might be asked to use another app

Venues decide how tickets are issued, and many use a ticketing platform's own app for entry. Vivid Seats says that because it works with many ticketing platforms, you might have to download another app to accept an electronic transfer. After your order is confirmed it emails an estimated delivery date.

An instruction to accept tickets in the venue's app is normal. An instruction to pay someone outside Vivid Seats is not.

How to tell the real Vivid Seats from a scam

The scams to worry about are imitations of a marketplace, not the marketplace itself. The FTC's warning signs apply directly: pressure to act immediately, and requests to pay by gift card, wire transfer, payment app or cryptocurrency.

  • Type the address yourself, or use a link you trust, rather than following an ad or a message.
  • Pay only through the Vivid Seats checkout.
  • Do not move a purchase to direct messages, email or a payment app because a "seller" asks.
  • Keep your order confirmation and the delivery email.

Before you buy on Vivid Seats

  • Confirm the artist, date, venue and city match the show you mean.
  • Check the section, row, quantity and any notes on the listing.
  • Look at the full order total, including taxes and delivery.
  • Note the delivery method and estimated delivery date.
  • Compare the same seats on another marketplace and with the official seller if you can.

FAQ

Is Vivid Seats legit?

Yes. It is an established resale marketplace, and its Buyer Guarantee promises a secure transaction, delivery before the event, and valid, authentic tickets. It is not the official seller for concerts.

Are Vivid Seats tickets real?

Vivid Seats guarantees that tickets bought through it are valid and authentic. Sellers must be approved before they can list.

Why are Vivid Seats prices so high?

Resellers set every price on Vivid Seats based on demand and seat location, so prices can be above face value. Check whether the official seller still has tickets first.

Does Vivid Seats refund cancelled events?

For an event cancelled and not rescheduled, Vivid Seats gives compensation as a refund or store credit of the purchase price, at its discretion. Postponed events keep their tickets for the new date.

Is Vivid Seats the same as Ticketmaster?

No. Ticketmaster is the official primary seller for many concerts; Vivid Seats is a resale marketplace. See Vivid Seats vs Ticketmaster.

Does TourTicketCompare vet Vivid Seats sellers?

No. The site checks that a link goes to the right event on Vivid Seats. The seller, the order and the guarantee are Vivid Seats' to handle.
